ReVibe

Northern NSW Music Workshop Tour

The foundation of a community is its people. Through its people, each community has its own vibe, creates its own harmony, and operates at its own frequency. The recent bushfire crisis has not only destroyed the physical structures of Northern NSW communities, it has deeply impacted communities’ wellbeing, leaving people in trauma, loss and disruption. ReVibe is a music workshop tour aiming to rebuild the vibe, the sense of love, and hope and resilience of Northern NSW communities who have been significantly impacted by bushfires in the last 18 months.

In Spring 2020, Mad Proppa Deadly (MPD) will take our mobile caravan music studio, Mob Studio, on the road to deliver music workshops for young people from the Tingha, Drake, Rappville, and Tabulum/Jubullum communities to promote recovery and resilience, rebuilding community vibe and spirit. We will lead 2 days of music writing, production and recording workshops in each community, producing a song by the young people that will reinforce the love and sense of connection that binds them together and gives them their strength.

The songs produced in each community will be collated into an EP that then connects the communities with each other, the proceeds of which can go directly back into the communities themselves. This gives the young people a sense that they are actively contributing to the regrowth and recovery of their community.

LEVEL UP

MPD Leaders are the future of our corporation. They are young people from community who have come up through our programs and are motivated and prepared to take the next steps in building a career in music, whether it be as an artist/performer, a music producer, an MPD mentor, in event management or live-sound. We strive to keep the next gen of leaders connected and supported, by opening up opportunities for further learning (Tafe), providing a free space for them to develop, write, record new music or provide paid opportunities for them to perform, teach, and excel. This project sits alongside all others as no matter what we do, we strive to help our young people LEVEL UP.

In 2021, MPD supported 5 artists to travel from Armidale to Sydney to complete a Cert III in Music Industry - Sound Production with EORA Tafe Redfern

InTune

(past)
In-Tune was a two-day music production and songwriting masterclass in Armidale in 2019 led by Nate Weatherall (Koorified) and Sydney-based musician Freddy Crabs and producer A Diddy (Horrorshow). The artists worked with young people from Anaiwan and Gumbaynggirr families and other local tribes to teach production and writing skills, developing a song that celebrates a shared sense of place and the things that bring us ‘in-tune’ as a community.
For many years there has been division between families of different mobs in Armidale. Young people in the community are leading the way forward in terms of breaking down the barriers and In-Tune’s creative processes started a conversation, driven by the younger generation who are working to improve their community.

In-Tune was supported by Arts North West, RODE Microphones and the NSW Government through the Regional Arts NSW Country Arts Support Program.
